From this point, I was technically on my Christmas break. However, I was determined to keep working on my project through December to get the best possible end result by April.

I spent early December making a lot of small changes for Polish as well as adding smaller features. I originally opted to focus on these smaller additions at this time as my current sprint was focussed on fleshing out the narrative and characters in and around the game, which I was having some writers block for.

Some of these changes / additions include:

Fixing a glitch with the sprint where you could permanently lower your walk speed through multiple ‘stop sprinting’ events being fired at once, by adding a check to said event to check whether the ‘IsSprinting?’ boolean is true before running the rest of its logic.

Adding progression to and from boss encounters, through integers in the Game Instance that check how many combat encounters have been cleared, and how many are required for the boss encounter, and spawning a ‘next room shrine’ when the boss is defeated.

Pause and Game Over screens added to the game, so players can return to the main menu and quit the game without ‘alt+f4-ing’.

Beyond this, working on the narrative was going a little slow, so I extended this sprint to give myself some more time to work on it while continuing working on other features during the times I struggled with writing.

I did this so that instead of just doom-scrolling or hopping on a game, I would at least still be productive while struggling with writing.
