'Meltdown' was created as a 5 Week Game Jam by myself and two Composers. It is an Arcade-Style Game where the player must survive as long as possible by completing a barrage of simple tasks which become more and more frequent.

Design

Meltdown's gameplay Design is quite simple, as expected of an Arcade-style Game; the game can be played just using the mouse, as the Player interacts with the game by clicking on various buttons / keypads.

The core Gameplay loop is that tasks activate at random intervals within a window of time (said window becoming shorter as the Player Survives longer); tasks being active builds up the 'Meltdown Metre', which when full, will cause a Game Over.
Resolving a task, along with stopping the buildup of Meltdown, further reduces the gauge a little, so that quick Players can keep their metre down without having to instantaneously stop any active tasks.

Programming

Between the beginning and end of this Game Jam marked my progression from still feeling like a relative beginner in Unreal, to feeling more confident in my skill with the Engine.

Although there were multiple points throughout the five weeks where I could not work on the Game; this was the first Project where I felt able to solve complex issues within Unreal without outside help.
